The holidays are a time to reconnect with friends and family—and often, that means hosting overnight guests. If you’re opening your home to loved ones this Christmas, make their experience truly special with a few thoughtful touches that will make all the difference in their stay.

’Tis the Season

Break out the seasonal bedding and ensure your guests feel the holiday magic from their first step into the room. No room to store a full set? As exemplified in this home, simply adding a few plaid throw pillows—and  maybe a quilt—will do the trick!

Clutter-free and Convenient

Bedside clutter isn’t conducive to a relaxing stay, so make sure your guest has a place nearby to stash their odds and ends. This will allow them to fully appreciate the beauty of the space you’ve prepared just for them.

Used strategically, baskets aren’t just beautiful—they’re the perfect functional finishing touch to your visitor’s space. Whether left empty as a place for guests to store their belongings or stocked with extra blankets, you can’t go wrong including a woven wonder like the one shown in this cottage in your guest room.

A Place to Rest

After a long day spent celebrating the holidays or checking out the local shops, it’s important to have a place to sit, kick off your shoes, and relax before turning in for the night. Depending on the available space, consider slipping a bench, armchair, or sofa into your guest room for an added level of comfort.

Don’t Forget the Bath

Whether or not your guest space has an en suite bath, it’s important to remember the bathroom when prepping your home for visitors. Having extra toiletries on hand—preferably in a festive scent—providing a comfy robe and slippers, or leaving a scented candle by the tub with their name on it will let your loved ones know they’re welcome to make themselves at home.

A Spot for Coffee

Encourage slow, tranquil mornings by including a spot for your guest to sit and enjoy their coffee in the privacy of their own room. Tuck a Keurig coffee maker onto a shelf for added convenience, or leave a bottle of wine and a pair of glasses to inspire a relaxing evening away from the crowds.

Sweets and Treats

Nothing will make your visitors feel more welcome than a tray filled with their favorite treats—from holiday baked goods and cocoa packets to personal bags of chips perfect for a midnight snack.

Finish off your guest space with a sweet surprise—a small gift wrapped and left on the bed to be discovered. Whether it’s a pair of cozy socks, festive pajamas, or something more personalized, your loved one will be sure to remember their visit fondly every time they use it.
