Above: Andrea Conti and Isa Cert of Barcelona-based Conti, Cert were brought in to redo a 1500-square-foot apartment for friends with an eye towards more light and better flow. Now, French doors accomplish both goals, separating the living areas from the kitchen while letting in light.
The detailed ceiling was one lucky find of the renovation: “Every time we find vaulted ceilings, which are called Catalan ‘volta’ here, or molded doors, we try to recover them,” says Andrea. “In this project, we tore down the low roofs aiming to find this ceiling.”
Above: The duo salvages original detailing wherever possible, but the existing floor was not usable. Instead, they replicated the look with white tiled floors. The lower cabinets on one wall are painted in a deep green—NCS Colour’s S 8010-B90G—for contrast. The high chair is the good-looking Stokke Tripp Trapp, and the cooktop is by Smeg. Above: The cabinets are left super minimal. On the back wall, a vintage task light illuminates open shelves.
