When Bridget and Trent Green came across their 1950s ranch-style house in historic Midland, Texas, they were pleased to discover the previous owners had already tackled many of the renovations and updates they desired. Still, Bridget, the founder of online Oushak rug retailer Milagro Collective, wanted to put their own personalized touch on the home with her distinctive style that bridges traditional and modern with meaning behind every design decision.

“I assured my husband the house was move-in ready with only minimal projects when we bought it,” Bridget says. “Little did he know that two years later, we’d still be renovating bathrooms and adorning every available space with wallpaper. I have a passion for rearranging furniture and keeping things fresh. Our vision was to create a comfortable and inviting home with a Southern touch. You’ll find a blend of antiques alongside practical, family-friendly performance fabrics throughout.”

And this carefully balanced blending of elements marks so many facets of the home’s design. Rich wood furnishings ground the pastel scheme in tradition, while acrylic counterparts bring in fresh flair, and accessories bear both classic motifs and contemporary silhouettes. “My approach involves a mix of estate sale and Facebook Marketplace finds, along with a touch of modern glamour,” Bridget says of inclusions like gold fixtures and finishing details that add a dash of fanciful sophistication.
“Typically, it follows a pattern: I discover something I love after patiently waiting in an estate sale line for hours. Then, I excitedly text one of my best friends, Heather Rowland [of Heather Rowland Design], to share my purchase. Together, we work out how to seamlessly integrate these pieces into the overall design.”

Much of the harmony of this process comes down to the light and airy aesthetic that all the spaces share—cloaked in soft, subtle hues that spark to life a bit more vibrantly in patterned accents and artwork. “We aimed to create a serene and calm atmosphere in our home while infusing it with a touch of fun and vibrant color,” Bridget says. “We opted for a more subdued color palette in our larger furniture pieces such as sofas, chairs, and tables. The pops of color were introduced through commissioned art and, of course, rugs—adding both personality and visual interest to the space.”

And in line with the mission of her company, these rugs act as the anchor and muse behind every room they grace throughout the home. The small yet showstopping entry, complete with grass cloth wallpaper and its own Oushak rug, opens up to the sprawling living area filled with enchanting color and myriad thoughtful, artistic accessories that all come together for a clean, elegant look. “It all began with the discovery of a unique Turkish Oushak rug, which served as our color inspiration,” Bridget explains.

A commissioned painting of Lake Martin pays homage to Trent’s Alabama roots while echoing the shades woven across the rug that reappear in blue performance fabrics on furnishings and salmon-striped drapes Heather sourced. A contemporary grass cloth coffee table, which ties in the entry walls, provides a soft focal point amid darker wood fixtures that all boast storied pasts.

In the kitchen just beyond, though selected by the previous owners, the scheme serendipitously continues with cabinets painted lovely Light Blue by Farrow & Ball and a weathered white subway tile backsplash that happens to be an exact match to what the Greens had in their prior home. “To make it our own, we introduced brass hardware, and we added a playful touch with a Roman shade,” Bridget says of the Schumacher fabric Heather chose that coalesces with a grounding runner below.

The bedrooms resume Bridget’s signature approach of drawing vision from a foundational rug. In her daughter Lucy’s whimsical nursery, a restrained green-and-purple theme arose from Bridget’s childhood love of Barney and an unexpected idea for art. “We started with a vintage Hermès scarf as the art piece and designed a custom rug to match its colors,” she says of the Lucille rug Milagro now offers.

The primary bedroom takes on a more neutral tone, pulling muted hues of dusty blue and burnt orange from the Turkish rug Bridget searched tirelessly for and has since re-created as Milagro’s Havins rug. “Once we had the rug, everything else fell into place seamlessly,” she says of Heather’s curated coordinating selections.

It is this fervor to hunt for true treasures—across a spectrum of eras, styles, and price points—that infuses the Greens’ home with so much charm and character. “Our home’s uniqueness lies in the fact that nearly everything within it carries a story; whether it’s the tables discovered during memorable trips, custom-made sofas that beautifully complement a $100 garage sale find, or the collection of handmade rugs gathered over time, each item has a special narrative,” Bridget says. “Running Milagro Collective has taught me . . . that combining inexpensive pieces with carefully chosen investments can truly make a big impact on our home interiors. This synergy between my business and our home décor has led to a well-balanced and inviting living space.”

Milagro Collective is an online retailer that specializes in modern handwoven Oushak rugs—from the company’s own thoughtful creations to curations by their concierge service—meant to become family heirlooms, grounding generations of spaces to come. “Milagro Collective was born out of a practical need for quality, budget-friendly handmade rugs,” Bridget says. “My husband and I had recently bought our first home, and our dogs were causing us to go through machine-made rugs every few months. That’s when I noticed the absence of affordable, colorful Oushak rugs in the market, and it sparked the idea for the business.” For more information, visit milagrocollective.com.
