During my four days at High Point Market in October 2023 I was struck just how popular blue is right now in home decor. Below I set out all kinds of photos of interior designs, furniture and accessories showcasing blue.
Interestingly, Benjamin Moore’s color of the year for 2024 is Blue Nova. Here it is:
I always wonder what happens first. Do the paint companies declare a color of the year and the industry follows along or the other way around? I guess that’s the million-dollar question with respect to how trends and the zeitgeist arise. It’s moot anyway. The fact of the matter is blue is hot in 2024.
Here is a pile of photo examples from High Point Market showcasing blue in home decor
Check out them blues before. Organized by brand.
Braxton Culler embraces blue color throughout
Braxton Culler’s showroom displays incorporated blue widely. Given the brand is also big on the coastal style, it’s no surprise. Regardless, they seemed to hit the decor zeitgeist at market. The above is an example of making blue the dominant color with dark blue wall, accent chair and throw pillows.
Here’s a coastal style design with plenty of blue, almost all blue accented with white. It works great; I wouldn’t have this in my main residence but it’s perfect for a cottage.
Even patio furniture got the blue treatment. I particularly love this patio sofa design in sections contrasted nicely with off-white and blue.
Century’s rich decor rolls blue in on the wall
Century’s displays are rich in design incorporating a broad array of colors and furniture styles but does so in a way that works so well creating sumptuous rooms. This is an example where blue makes its appearance on the wall.
Chaddock’s colorful mix of orange and blue
I love Chaddock’s colorful living room with wonderful contrast between angled geo-shaped rug pattern and curved furniture. Blue is throughout but instead of contrasted with the usual white, it’s orange.
Chaddock did a 180 here with a light blue color scheme where blue is primarily inject via art and the sofa. This is a much more traditional decor than Chaddock’s first above (the blue and orange living room).
Fabricut is in on blue big-time
I gravitated toward this room’s decor. I tend to like bright colors peppered in decor and this display by Fabricut hits the nail on the head primarily with the fabulous blue and red wallpaper.
Even HANCOCK & MOORE’s leather furniture gets the blue treatment
HANCOCK & MOORE went old-world here with a large, luxurious dark blue leather armchair and ottoman blended with dark blue walls. This was one of my favorite displays at High Point.
Nuevo shines bright with its modern electric blue decor
For the modern style inclined, here’s a great example where blue dominates the space. It’s not often you see modern design focus on blue like this. It totally works. This was one of the first displays I saw at High Point and it struck a nerve.
Revelation embraces a soft blue hue
This particular living room decor looks more blue than it is. It’s just the very light blue wall that is blue but the light grey and glass coffee table give the impression of there being more blue than there is. It’s a great example of clever design.
Theodore Alexander rolls out blue for every room
Theodore Alexander loves draperies and uses them liberally in displays. The blue draperies in this example tie in with the throw pillows to create a lovely blue-accented living room.
Theodore Alexander is at it again with this blue wall in a home office display that works beautifully.
Bedroom decor is so multi-faceted with the bedding and pillows that can beautifully dictate the overall look of a room. This example by Theodore Alexander is using blue bedding and wall to create what I categorize as a “blue bedroom”.
Here’s an example where blue is merely the accent. It works by breaking up the otherwise monochromatic beige color scheme.
The Erinn V line at Universal loves blue for 2024
This Erinn V display in Universal embraces crisp blues to accent the off-white color scheme in this living room. The sharply contrasting ottomans make the space aided with the similarly patterned throw pillows.
Here’s a striking kids room by Erinn V done in light blue and white. It’s fun, whimsical and timeless for a kids room.
The Miranda Kerr line at Universal offers splashes of blue decor as well
My final example is from the Miranda Kerr collection in the Universal showroom building. Blue is peppered in as an accent only – accent chairs and throw pillows. I like how the blue accent chairs are solid blue instead of patterned (same with the throw pillows). It’s an effective styling technique.
What if you don’t like blue in home decor? Are you hopelessly out of date?
Nah, not at all. Blue isn’t the be-all and end-all right now. Organic colors (neutrals, browns and beiges) and green are hot too.
If you go with blue will it get outdated?
I’m of two minds when writing about various color trends because while there was plenty of blue at High Point Market in Fall 2023, it wasn’t the only color by any stretch. The fact is go with the color you love. Outdatedness falls more to the overall styling than it does a single color. What’s fun about decor is with accent pieces you can quickly and inexpensively give any room a quick color update. If ever you tire of it, change it up. Seriously, many examples above embrace blue solely with some paint, an accent chair and/or ottoman and throw pillows.
