Studio Slow is the design workshop of Dutch furniture store Jan De Jong in Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands. The studio is led by Christien Starkenburg, who, with her brother, Henk, are fourth generation members of their family to run the modernist emporium: back in 2016, we spotlighted the company’s Curtained Kitchen, which helped ignite the under-sink skirt trend. Today, we’re featuring another kitchen by the Studio Slow team—and yes, it includes a chic linen below-counter curtain.

The design is the centerpiece of a 1960s Friesland house. Owners Anouk and Gert were “at the point of what to do, renovate or move?” reports Christien. They wisely chose to stay with their family and reinvent things. After working with Maas Kristinsson Architecten on a renovation plan of serene, interconnected living spaces, Studio Slow came in to full detail the new picture.

It includes a custom kitchen of ash, a storybook laundry room within touching distance, and a well-stocked home office right across the way. To keep all open and light, Studio Slow introduced glazed partitions: everything is out in the open and invitingly composed. Come see.
