While we certainly welcome the sparkle and splendor that often accompany the holidays, there’s something to be said for a more pared-down approach that draws vision from winter’s natural beauty presented in a sophisticated yet comfortable manner. Artful red-and-white Spode transferware with classic Christmas illustrations serves as the muse for the rest of the setting, where an equally enchanting cottage scene unfolds.
A polished but cozy upholstered banquette accented with plush pillows creates a relaxed ambience alongside a table draped in a linen cloth finished with a stylishly ruffled border. The neutral base and white dinner plates, embellished with only a simple French basket-weave rim, put the spotlight on the iconic salad plates and pretty packages that rest atop them.
The centerpiece brings the wrapping paper pattern to life with pine cones, citrus, and berries scattered about a trio of poinsettias bearing a mix of blushing shades and spilling forth from brushed-gold vessels. Light from the chandelier above casts a warm glow through the greenery that adorns it, imbuing a subdued gleam from both the vases and vintage-inspired colored glassware in a smoky amber hue.
Details like a traditional tartan napkin gathered in a ring that repeats the pine cone motif seen elsewhere on the tablescape add a homey touch while personalized gift tags on each place setting’s petite parcel ensure guests receive the heartfelt hospitality.
Just beyond the table, a bar area backed with a distinctive reeded wood accent wall is subtly decorated with greenery and a few bottle-brush trees, as well as linens cloaked in festive fields of ruby red florals and seasonal sentiments.
