More and more, we’ve been noticing the rise of the 70s-era puffy lounge chair. You know the type: a swell of upholstery, firm and overstuffed, almost cumulus. Like a big hug. Here are our 10 current favorites.
Above: Design phenom Faye Toogood is no stranger to a puffy shape (the cult Roly Poly chair features chunky legs) but her new Gummy Chair is designed with “generous, anthropomorphic proportions” she explains. It’s entirely British-made with Coakley & Cox, a workshop in Norfolk, and made of all natural materials throughout. Shown here is the Opio chunky wool bouclé from Pierre Frey. It’s an investment piece; $9,748 at Toogood.
Above: West Elm makes the Cozy Swivel Chair, shown in Ivory Shearling, with a low-slung seat and swivel base; $849.
Above: The Normann Copenhagen Swell Armchair comes in a wide range of upholstery fabrics; $3,070 from Normann Copenhagen.
Above: The &Tradition Margas LC2 Lounge Chair is designed by Louise Liljencrantz and available for $2,139.03 from Mohd.
Above: From Australian designer Sarah Ellison, the Huggy Swivel Chair features rounded edges and a memory foam seat base. Shown in Malibu Velvet; $2,316 at Design Within Reach.
Above: The Ferm Living Rico Lounge Chair is voluminous, sturdy, and made in Italy; $2,955 at Horne.
Above: Designed by Pierre Paulin for Gubi in 1975, the Pacha Lounge Chair is generous and plush; $3,667 at Finnish Design Shop.
Above: Even Goop is on board: The Gwyneth Black Boucle Swivel Chair designed by Goop for CB2 features bouclé-like upholstery, a swivel base, and an approachable price at $999.
Above: The Swedish-made Fogia Barba Club Chair has a cloud-like form and a name derived from cotton candy. Shown in Karakorum Ivory upholstery; $5,835 at Horne.
Above: Designed by Ross Cassidy for CB2, the Bacio Camel Boucle Lounge Chair is $899.
