From first impressions to balancing form with function, mudrooms go a long way in offering a warm—and organized—welcome home after a busy day. Whether it’s rain or shine, snowy winter weather or the dog days of summer, this utilitarian utopia proves its worth no matter the season. Baskets, drawers, cubbies, and hooks offer endless possibilities for customization to make the most of your space. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite mudroom designs below to inspire your next organizational endeavor.

Bright-white tongue-and-groove planking imparts cottage charm to this attractive alcove, while the patterned tile infuses a dash of color. Woven baskets in the overhead storage lend warmth, along with the bench seat’s dark wood stain. A potted plant and pair of pillows ensure the space feels extra welcoming.

This mudroom’s rich wood tones capture the cozy vibes found throughout this lakeside retreat. Complementing the cool gray paint coating the shiplap walls, the floor features blue stone pavers. A mix of open shelves and cabinetry, the built-in allows for both easy drop zones and compartments to tuck away items out of sight.

Pretty & Practical

A soothing scheme of light blue and creamy white creates a calming oasis in this Minnesota home’s mudroom, which conveniently leads into the laundry room. Interior designer Bria Hammel utilized a striped wallpaper by Brooke & Lou to add color and playfulness—further enhanced by the tile selected for the floor. “We love how bright and beautiful the area is while still being practical,” says Bria.

Make an Entrance

Since this mudroom often serves as a second entrance into the home, interior designer Maggie Griffin ensured it makes a stunning statement. “It’s very open to the rest of the home, so it had to be easy to organize and attractive,” Maggie says. A wall of built-ins provides plenty of storage while the rug’s subtle pink and brown hues enhance the space’s neutral palette.

Long-Lasting Design

Durability is key in this stylish mudroom where a ceramic tile floor and indoor-outdoor fabric selected for the bench cushions are sure up to stand daily wear and tear. Hooks for jackets, lower drawers for shoes, and baskets for accessories stowed on overhead shelves keep everything in its place amidst comings and goings.
